DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Ted or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ted:

Hi Ted. We are co-managers of Jeremiah Sabeans' profile along with John Thurber. I recently merged Jeremiah Sabins file into https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sabean-33 and have been challenged by John Thurber regarding Jeremiah's last name. There is no hard data to go by and a lot of guesswork. Would you please join our party and help make or remake a last name.

Hi Ted,

It's good to see you active at WikiTree again. You might be interested in some of the tips and tricks that we have included in the How-Tos that we share with new members these days. They were created long after you became a member so you never received them.

Thanks for taking responsibility for the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.

If the profile needs GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let me know by using the "reply" link for this comment or by clicking my name to visit my profile. From there you can leave a comment or send a private message.

Hi Ted

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To find other potential relatives, continue adding sourced profiles for other lines until you can connect on all branches. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Have fun!

Hi Ted,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Add the project tag to your Following list to be kept up to date on any activity that occurs for that project.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)

Ted,

Please stop entering new profiles and communicate with one of us on the Ranger team before continuing.

Hi Ted,

I see you are adding a lot of new profiles, with full birth/death dates/places. When you add places, please use commas to separate names of towns, counties, countries, etc. Also please do include the country names because, our tree is world wide and people in other parts of the world might not know what country these towns, counties, states, provinces, etc. are in.

One other thing - when you add a new person to the tree, could you please enter at least one source of the information you are entering?

Thank you, Gaile ~ WikiTree Ranger

Ted,

Please do not add pre-1700 profiles without sources.

Hi Ted!

I see you have your pre-1700 badge again! Be very careful to capitalize the names of places in the location fields. Let me know if you need any help. I'll be here!

Ted,

It is very important that you do not create duplictaes. There are profiles already on WikiTree for most famous people and people who lived more than 200 years ago.

Please work on the profiles already on your tree that need capitalized place names and sources.

Thanks

Paula

Ted,

Any profile that is more than 200 years old is probably already here. All of the famous ones, such as royals and aristocrats already have a profile. When you are adding a new profile of someone already here, a match will show which means don't save your work and add another.

On WikiTree, there is only one profile per person so it is very important that you do not add another profile for these people.

There are projects that manage these older profiles and you need to collaborate with the project they are under to work on them or change them in any way.

Please work on profiles that are less than 200 years old until you get used to WikiTree. I will be glad to help you.

Hi Ted,

Please do not add any profiles until after you are sure they are not on WikiTree already.

Ted you are currently creating duplicate profiles from the European Aristocrats project and the Arcadia project. Can you please contact me or one of the other project leaders or your mentor before you continue. Thank you
