Hi, Vanessa

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

My name is Paul Wallace Vaughn, born 3 Aug 1940 Lamar County, AL. I have been researching the Vaughan/Vaughn family line for approximately 20 years. I currently reside in Riverside, St.Clair County, AL. Married to Patricia Sue Campbell 27 March 1967. I have one son Paul Stephen Vaughn born 12 Nov 1961, and one Grandson Jordan Paul Vaughn born 1 April 1997.

My father is Paul Earnest Vaughn, born 31 Dec 1908 Marion County, AL

My Grand father is Miligan M. Vaughn, born 10 Oct 1882 Marion County, AL

My Great Grand father is Terrell Andrew Vaughn, born 24 Dec 1853 Marion County, AL

My Great Great Grand father is Nicholas Vaughan, born 1815, TN

Four Vaughan brothers (Stephen, Dempsey, Ephraim, and Fredrick) are shown in the 1790 Federal US Census living in the Halifax District, Nash County, North Carolina. It is believed Stephen was born around 1755. It is believed Dempsey, Ephraim, and Frederick passed away prior to the 1800 Federal Census. I have no records on the Vaughan family prior to the 1790 census.

Stephen Vaughan and his family sold 476 acres of land to Eli Williams on 27 November 1809 and departed North Carolina for Tennessee. These ancestors don’t appear in the 1810 or 1820 Tennessee, Alabama or North Carolina Census. It is believed Stephen Sr. and wife Mary have passed away in Tennessee or Alabama between 1810 and 1830 census as there were was no complete census taken in Tennessee and Alabama during this period. (I have no record of death or burial of Stephen Sr. and May)

The 1830 Federal Census list Stephen Jr. married to a Mary Glover around 1810 and had 14 children with four boys born in Tennessee (Samuel 1811, James 1813, Nicholas, 1815 and Hunter 1816). These ancestors are believed to have located to Marion County in 1819 and settled in Winfield, AL.

The 1840 Federal Census lists Stephen Vaughn Jr., Age 54 and wife Mary, age 49 and twelve children (Hunter, my ancestor, age 22)

The 1850 Federal Census indicates the (a) had been dropped from the spelling of the Vaughan family name. Stephen Jr. is listed as age 64 and wife Mary, age 59. (Hunter age 32, my ancestor is not listed in the census).

The 1860 Federal Census doesn’t show a Stephen Vaughn Jr. He has apparently has passed away and his wife Mary, (age 67) is listed with Jonathan Vaughn, age 30. Hunter/Newton (age 42) my ancestor is not listed in this census. (I have no record of death or burial of Stephen Jr.)

The 1870 Federal Census lists a Newton (Hunter) age 54 (son of Stephen Vaughn Jr.) and wife Martha J. age 56 in the Pikeville area. (Mary age 76, wife of Stephen Jr.) is listed in this household. My ancestor Terrell Andrew, age 16 is listed. (I have no record of the life, death or burial of Hunter, his wife Martha and his mother Mary). It is the opinion of my researcher this information is in error, there was a Newton Williams living next door, family 121; There was no Nicholas Vaughan; The wife and children for Newton Vaughan are the same as the family of Nicholas Vaughan in the 1850 and 1860 census.

The 1880 Federal Census list my ancestor Terrell Andrew, age 26 and wife Martha Jane, age 28 and three children.

I have completed the Family Tree DNA with 67 markers. My Kit number is 150292 and listed in the orange group.

Greetings,

It appears Wilson-9876 and Wilson-9869 are the same. Do they need to be merged? Thank-you!
