Gideon was born in 1766 in Dighton, Massachusetts to Peter and Abigail (Richmond) Pitts Jr.[1]
"Died, on the 29th ult., suddenly, Gideon Pitts, Esq. of Richmond, aged 62 years. Mr. Pitts was one of the pioneers of 1792, and among the earliest settlers of this county. A resident of 36 years among our our citizens, and the stations he has filled, as a member of our state legislature, and an efficient magistrate, has impressed us with feelings of respect for his talents and virtues. His townsmen and neighbors esteemed him more for theoretical and practical experience as an agriculturist, than for the highest duties of legislator and magistrate. Few are the number of these aged pioneers who remain to enjoy the fruit of their labors."[2]
