Biography

Charles was born 3 Feb 1896. His birthplace was listed as Wisconsin in the 1900, 1905, 1930 census. His birthplace was listed as Florida in the 1910 and 1940 census and on his death certificate. His military records list his birthplace as Pittstore, Columbia, Florida.

He was the son of Pearl Pitts and Emma France.

In 1900 he was living in Pittsville city Ward 1-3, Wood, Wisconsin.[1] The household included Pearl Pitts age 31, wife Emma Pitta age 30, son Thomas Pitts age 6, son Charles Pitts age 4 and daughter Della Pitts age 1, all born in Wisconsin. Pearl was a bookkeeper. Emma wIn 1900 he was living in Pittsville city Ward 1-3, Wood, Wisconsin.

In 1905 he was living in Necedah village, Juneau, Wisconsin.[2] The household included Pearl Pitts age 36, wife Emma Pitts age 35, son Thomas Pitts age 11, son Charles Pitts age 11, daughter Susie Pitts age 7 and daughter Della Pitts age 6, all born in Wisconsin. Pear was a day laborer.

In 1910 he was living in Portland Ward 5, Multnomah, Oregon.[3] The household included Pearl B Pitts age 41, wife Emma Pitts age 40, daughter Susie M Pitts age 12, daughter Della M Pitts age 11, son Thomas E Pitts age 16 and son Charles M Pitts age 14. All were born in Wisconsin, except Charles born in Florida. Pearl was a printer for a newspaper. Emma was the mother of 6 children, 4 living.as the mother of 4 children, all living.

He served in the US Army as a Corporal during World War I.[4]

In 1920 he was living in Philippine Islands, Military and Naval Forces, United States.[5] He was a Corporal, born 1894 in Florida. He was married and his residence in the United States was Portland, Oregon.

In 1930 he was living in Los Angeles (Districts 0001-0250), Los Angeles, California.[6] The household included Charles C Pitts age 34 born in Wisconsin, wife Josephine Pitts age 41 born in California, daughter Geraldine Pitts age 16 born in California and roomer Arthur E Sturn age 42 born in New York. Charles was a city policeman.

In 1940 he was living in Councilmanic District 13, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Township, Los Angeles, California.[7] The household included Chas M Pitts age 44 born in Florida, wife Josephine Pitts age 47 born in California, stepdaughter Evelyn Perott age 30 born in Arizona, stepdaughter Genevieve McNulty age 20 born in California, step granddaughter Verley Perott age 13 born in California and step granddaughter Diana Perott age 9 born in California. Charles was a L.A. City police officer. Evelyn was a saleswoman at a department store.

He registered for the World War II draft in Los Angeles, California, where he worked for the Los Angeles Police Department, Hollywood Division.[8]

He died 23 Mar 1961 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California.[9][10]
