Biography

Mary (Platt) Wetmore immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
This profile is part of the Atkinson Name Study.

Mary Platt was baptized on 11 Nov 1629 in Royden, Essex, England, daughter of Richard Platt (1604–abt. 1684) and Marye Wood (abt. 1605–abt. 1675).[1]

Mary (21) married (1) Luke Atkinson (17) (born about 1633 in England; son of Richard Atkinson and Marie (Hodgson) Atkinson) on 1 May 1651 in New Haven, Connecticut.[2][3][4][5][5][6] Their known children were:

  1. Mary Atkinson (1652–1691)
  2. Hannah Atkinson (1653–1735)
  3. Sarah Atkinson (1655– )
  4. Rebecca Atkinson (abt. 1658–1711)

Mary (36) Atkinson (called Mary Allenson in the Barbour records) married (2) Thomas Wetmore (50) (born about 1615 in Royden; son of John Whitmore and Unknown (Unknown) Whitmore) on 3 Feb 1666 in Middletown, Connecticut.[3] [7] She brought to her second marriage two daughters from her first marriage, Mary Atkinson (wife of Zachariah Baldwin) and Rebecca Atkinson (wife of Thomas Canfield and Samuel Camp). Their known children were:

  1. Josiah Whitmore (abt. 1668–aft. 1681)[8][9]
  2. Mehetabel Whitmore (1669–1732)[8]

Mary died on 17 Jun 1669 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut Colony, aged 39.[8][10]
