Dorothy (wife of John Woodall) is not seen in any of the publications as a daughter of William Pledge & Ann Redford. She is listed that way in an unsourced LDS Ancestral File. And certainly William Pledge might have named a daughter for his mother.
She married John Woodall, 12 Aug 1756, so she would likely have been older than Elizabeth & Frank Pledge. The Pettit book suggests that William (Pledge) had a brother John and it is quite possible Dorothy is John's daughter, not William's [doubtful, see below]. [5]
There is another question about William's brother John, however. In the will (what year?) of William's father, John Pledge, John charged his son-in-law John Johnson with the life-long care of his son John Pledge, indicating he might have some sort of disability; perhaps he did not father any children.
No daughter of this name was listed in the will (what year?) of William Pledge, and Dorothy was apparently still living in 1796, when her husband made out his will. Of course, children who have already received gifts, moved away, or fallen from favor can be omitted from a will.
As noted above, Dorothy's parents are uncertain. She married John Woodall on 12 August 1756. [6]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Dorothy by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Dorothy:

The marriage is from a derivative source. G2G posting said it should be posted until better sources are available. I don't know why the name keeps coming up but it does. Also the birthdate says 1717. I am trying to make sure these are the same 2 ppl and not just 2 ppl with same name close time periods or possibly a daughter and not actually the mother So I'm not sure what to do with it.
The information (or lack thereof) about Dorothy is included on the Pledge-42 profile. There is no supporting evidence for the claim that there was any connection between the Pledge family and any Native Americans. No one ever lived anywhere near the Cherokee. If there was a Native American ancestor (and there is no evidence whatsoever to support that claim) it was in 17th century Virginia.
