Biography

Sarah Plimsoll was born 6 December 1816 in Plymouth, Devon, England. She was Christened on the 8 December 1816 in the How Street Baptist Church, Plymouth, Devon, England. Her parents were named as Joseph Plimsoll and Ann. [1]

Sarah Plimsoll married John Edwards in 1839 in Montreal, Québec, Canada. [2]

Sarah Edwards is enumerated on the 1871 Canadian census in Saint Antioine Ward, Montreal West, Quebec, Canada. Sarah is a widow and there are three of her children living in the household: Lydia 30, John 20 and Joseph 14 years old. It is indicated that they were all born in England and are Baptist. [3]

Sarah is also listed on the 1881 census still living in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Daughter Lydia is still living with her as is son James. [4]

On the 1901 census Sarah and daughter Lydia are living in Truro, Colchester, Nova Scotia. Sarah is 84 years old, gives her birthdate 6 December 1916 in England. In 1840 she signed her Affidavit of Immigration to Canada. She is retired but no occupation is given. Lydia is 52 years old, born 8 August 1848 and is a Teacher of French. [5]

Sarah Plimsoll Edwards died 3 May 1907 and is buried in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Londonderry, Colchester County, Nova Scotia. [6]
