Notes for finding sources - Grinton parish registers begin in 1640. They are published and available online, but there is no burial for a Benjamin Plummer near 1664. There is only one entry for a Benjamin Plummer in the register, burial of a child in 1707, Benjamin son of Christopher Plumer of Reeth.^[2] Also checked under Rawley as middle names were not used at this time and at least one online tree had him as Benjamin (Rawley) Plummer, as though it were an alias, place name or mother's maiden name. There was an early settler in Rowley, Massachusetts, called Benjamin Plumer so it's possible someone has entered him in their tree as Benjamin (Rowley) Plummer and this has been copied by others.

A Geni.com tree has him as the father of Margaret Plummer buried 5 November 1669 Grinton, but this is the burial of a child "Margaret dau. of Mathew Plummer of Reeth". There is a Matthew Plummer of Easby who is shown with the same death date as Benjamin 21 June 1664, and his marriage also on the same date 21 June 1664. No source for the death but there is a source for the marriage, so it seems Benjamin and Matthew may have been confused and the death date given is not an exact date as appears, but an "after" date i.e. still alive on that date.

There are nearly 5000 Ancestry trees for a Benjamin Plummer/Plumer with the same death date at Grinton, none have any relevant sources though. Most show birth 1590 in Plymouth Devon. Marriage is usually to Elizabeth Metcalf, Matthew's wife, and dates given are 1614, 1618, 1664 in England or 1678 in Rowley Massachusetts. He is usually shown as the father of Mary Plummer Barnes (no evidence for this).

If no evidence can be found for Benjamin's existence, he could perhaps be merged with Matthew who has the same burial date at the moment.
