George Plummer received the Distinguished Service Cross during World War I. The local newspaper (see sources below) quoted from the award: "Private George Plummer—lnfantry. For Extraordinary heroism in action south of Soissons, France, July 18-25, 1918. Private Plummer distinguished himself by volunteering three times to carry messages thru heavy shell fire after all runners had been killed or wounded."
George married Stella Fothergill in Glenwood Springs on April 8, 1933.
Along with his father and brothers, George helped construct the Plummer Lakes on the Flattops, some of the earliest reservoirs constructed in western Colorado.
