Biography
The family name is spelled Plumstead in some records.
Rebecca married Lieut. Charles Gore of H.M. 55th Regiment in 1760.
She received a sizable inheritance from one of her grandfathers, although it is not clear which one. Despite being married, she preserved this inheritance as her own. Before departing the American colonies with her husband for England, she turned the funds over to Archibald McCall and Robert Morris (two financially astute men of Philadelphia), for investment. After the Revolution and the death in England of her husband and two infant children (unknown), she returned to Philadelphia where she lived until her death.
The Plumsted family had numerous connections with the McCalls of Philadelphia. Rebecca's elder sister Elizabeth married the widower of Eleanor McCall, who was the above-named Archibald McCall's sister.
