Biography

Thenea Louisa Poe aka Thena, Tennie was born Oct. 20, 1844 in Chatham County, North Carolina. The 1850 census list her name as Louisa and the 1860 census list her name as Theny. You would have to look at the 1860 census original photocopy to see that the age is not correct in the transfer of the record. Thenea married on Feb. 21, 1867 to Young Anderson Holt in Chatham County, North Carolina. It would seem that Thenea married later in her life due to Young Anderson Holt being enlisted and fighting in the civil war. Her father A. J. (Jackson) Poe was in the same 48th division as her future husband Young. She is listed in the 1870 census under the name Beny Hatt along with Young Hatt. She is listed in the 1880 census as living in Buck Horn, Wake County, North Carolina. Thenea died at a young age Nov. 20, 1891 and is buried at Providence Cemetery in Graham, North Carolina. Her husband Young is buried next to her. Her daughter Ophelia Holt Watkins who also died at a young age is buried there also. Her daughters Ophelia and Arteila were twins. Thenea would have been my great great grandmother. This information is from records and personal family history from Janice Harper Robertson.
