He moved his family from the west side to the east side of Cross Creek because of the many times that the creek was flooded and impassable and the children could not get to school or to church. the family lived in the out buildings while the house was torn down and rebuilt across the creek using the same lumber. John W. was very particular about the building and would not allow a single nail to be hammered too hard so as to leave a dent. Bert help him build the house. he took a bad fall during the building and suffered because of it the remainder of his life. John W. was active in the Florence Community and was on the school board and a member of the Florence Baptist Church. John W. was a County Commissioner, School Board Trustee, Professional Juror in Giddings, Lee Seat. (The Florence school/church building was moved to HY 112 across from Emma Yaeger's place. It was remodeled into a home.)
