Biography

Joseph was born in 1754. [1]

Joseph Poe wrote his will on May 10, 1812: In the name of God, Amen. The _____ tenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve.

I, Joseph Poe, of Clermont county, state of Ohio, farmer being weak in body but of perforect mind and memory thanks be unto God, therefore calling unto mind the mortality of the body and knowing that it is appointed unto all men to die, do make this my last will that is to say J______ J______ and last of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty giver of Almighty God and as trusting such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, devise, and dispose of the same in the following manner. It is my will and I do so order that in the first place all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid and satisfied. I give and bequeath unto the following of my children Mary Piles, Elizabeth Connet, Margaret La Pery fifty cents apiece Edward Poe, Joseph Poe, David Poe, Jesse Pie fifty cents apiece considering they all have got their full share. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Naomi and Ruth a bed, a spinning wheel and ____ apiece when they go to housekeeping. It is my will and I desire that my beloved wife Barbara Poe be possessed of my land and all the rest of my property during her life or widowhood. If she should marry, I wish any land equally divided between my sons John and Jesse, and each of them to have a horse apiece. If she remains a widow, I wish her to hold it all of her life then all that is left to be equally divided between John and J____. I do hereby P_____ my brother, John Poe and son Edward Poe to be my executors of this my last will and testament and do hereby disallow, revoke, and disallow all of my former testament, wills, b_______, and executors in any guise beforehand. In witness hereof I have set my hand and affixed my seal this day and year first above mentioned. Joseph Poe His will was probated on 19 March 1838 at Brown, Ohio, three days after his death on 16 March 1838. [2]
