Obituary

Audrey Knight, 90 Audrey Knight passed away on August 26, 2014, in Spokane. Audrey was born February 4, 1924, near Cottonwood, Idaho, to Hershell and Katie Pollock. She grew up on a farm outside Cottonwood. She attended the Stockcreek School, a one-room schoolhouse, through the eighth grade. She rode her horse, Nugget, to school throughout childhood. At Cottonwood High School, Audrey was active in sports, especially basketball. Audrey’s upbringing during the Great Depression nurtured a sense of thrift and pragmatism. In 1942, Audrey moved with her parents to Pullman, where she briefly attended Washington State College (later WSU). In Pullman during World War II, Audrey worked for the WSU Library and Montgomery Ward department store. In 1947, she married William H. Knight (“Bill”), who became Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering at WSU. She and Bill raised four children. Audrey loved her children and spending quality time with them, especially during their childhood. Fond memories in the Knight household include Christmas time, when Audrey enjoyed painting winter scenes on the picture windows of their home on Dilke Street. In the summers, Audrey and family would visit beaches in Washington state, especially Ocean Shores, for clam-digging and barbecues. From the late 1960s until her retirement, Audrey worked at WSU, initially for the Water Research Center, and later for the Murrow Communications Center. The Knights made their home in Pullman until 1992, when Audrey moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2001, Audrey moved to Spokane. Among her interests, Audrey enjoyed reading, investing, oil painting, traveling, and spending time with her family. She possessed a strong intuition, common sense, and empathy for others. She is survived by her children Donna, Kimball, Randy, and Gary, all of whom graduated from WSU; as well as two grandchildren Katie Staton and Tess Staton. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Knight, who died in 1984; by her companion, David Strother; by her parents, Hershell and Katherine Pollock; by a brother, Raymond Pollock; by her sister, Lola Jacobs; and by a grandchild, Ryan Staton. A graveside service will be held for Audrey at Pullman City Cemetery on Tuesday, September 2, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the National Parkinson Foundation are welcome. [1]
