Winceslaus Ponder was born on September 28, 1822[1] in part of what would become Germany. The exact region is uncertain; 1860 census states Baden; 1870 census states Prussia; 1800 census states Baden, parents born Baden; 1900 simply says Germany. I think I will go with Baden. 1900 census states he immigrated in 1832. Since he would have been only ten years old, he apparently came with his parents. Research needs to be done to locate immigration record. His parents were William L. Ponder and Marianna Schremp.
Winceslaus served during the Civil War in Company H, Missouri Osage County, Home Guard, Infantry Regiment. He applied for a pension based on this service on 5 August 1890.[2]
On October 12, 1848, Winceslaus married Johanna Robinson in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri.[3]
Between 1 May 1857 and 1 October 1860 Winceslaus purchased 320 acres of land in Miller County, Missouri.[4]
