Biography

GUY [II] de Ponthieu, son of GUILLAUME [I] "Talvas" Comte de Ponthieu & his wife Hélie de Bourgogne [Capet] (-Ephesus [25 Dec] 1147).

He succeeded [before 1129] as Comte de Ponthieu. “filiorum primogenitus Wido” was made “patre vivente...comes Pontivi”

His parents and wife are verified by this next entry:

"Guido comes Pontivi" donated property to Cîteaux with the consent of "pater eius Willelmus comes…et mater eius Hela" by charter dated 18 Dec 1139, signed by "Guido comes et uxor sua Ida"[1441]. He left on crusade in 1146.

If his wife is going to carry the alternate name Montgomery (or Belleme for that matter) she can only get it from her husband, this man. So, he should too.

But, did this branch of the family still use it? Or did that stop with Robert II, his grandfather?

Why are we calling him Wido? He's French. It's Guy. (Latin is Guido hence Wido, right?)
