Biography

John was born in 1850, the son of Joseph Pool and Julie Latta. They lived in Woodsfield, Monroe County, Ohio. The 1880 US Census states that John Pool age 30, Carrie age 31 and son Walter W. age 13. Carrie and Walter are both born in WV. Walter may the the stepson of John? John is listed as a painter and paper hanger. The 1900 US Census has John age 50 living in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, wife Carrie age 51 and daughter Ann Pool age 23. John is listed as a steel worker.

Ann is not in the 1880 Census and Walter can't be found.

John has annual advertisements in the Spirit of Democracy of Woodsfield, almost every mouth for painting and paper hanging 1870 -1884? John had one close incident on 3/13/1866 the son of Joseph Pool caught and buried by falling into a coal bank. He was unearthed without delay and was found to have little injuries. The Spirit of Democracy Woodsfield on 5/22/1877 says one Mr. John Pool one of the Courthouse painters slipped while descending the South side of the roof and narrowly escaped falling to the ground, when near the edge of the roof he caught one foot on a chimney escaping almost certain death.

John died in 1939, in Lisbon, Center, Columbiana County, Ohio a widow and no mention of children, only a Latta nephew and survived by his sister Eve Ann Christy of Monroe, Ohio.
