Richard was born in 1846 the son of Joseph Pool and Julie Latta. The 1860 US Census states that Richard Pool was age 14, sister Eva Ann age 12 and John C. age 10. Children of Joseph and Julia Pool of Woodsfield, Monroe County, Ohio. Richard may have married one Nancy Ann Bellville of Marietta, Ohio 9/1869. I was unable to find a widow Pool in the 1870 Census. The Spirit of Democracy of 12/21/1869 states that Richard Pool the son of Joseph Pool, Woodsfield, Monroe, Ohio drowned on the steamer Rebecca, at Parkersburg, West Virginia. FamilySearch states that the West Virginia death records that one Richard Pool drowned in a steamer accident in the Ohio River. Fifty six years later my great-grandfather Frank Pool died of drowning while working at the US Ohio River Dam in Reno, Ohio. Working on steamers in the 1800's was a good job source for men, but a constant danger of steamer wrecks, fires, steam engine explosions and drowning were a concern. Richard is buried in Witten Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.
