George was born about 1799 in Norfolk, England. On 30 Apr 1823 he enlisted in the Honourable East India Company St Helena Regiment and arrived on Saint Helena the same year on board the ship 'Bridgewater'.

31 Mar 1828 - George Pooley of St Helena Artillery married Spinster Charlotte Gunnell at St James.
In 1836, The British Crown resumedmanagement of Saint Helena and the St Helena Regiment was disbanded. George remained on Saint Helena,working as a Clerk for the HEIC.
He passed away in 1857 and was buried in St Paul's churchyard on 16 Dec 1857.
