Will of Pope, John, W. W. 4 Jan. 1722/3---Will Proved 20 Nov.1723

Eldest son Joseph Pope-the lower part of my land begining at the head of old Spring branch, and runing across the plantation to the head of a small branch, including the lower part of the neck, to him and the heirs lawfully begotten of his own body.

Second son John Pope-the upper part of my land begining at a each tree standing over a spring, standing in the upper part of my land, and so runing to the little field branch, and so up the branch to the head of the westermost valley, and. thence to the head of ā€¯miller's Grave Branch", to him and the heirs lawfully begotten of his own body.

Wife Anne Pope-the use of the manor plantation lying between my sons Joseph and John Pope's land during her natural life, and after her decease to my son John Pope and the heirs lawfully begotten of his own body.

Third son Richard Pope-the remainder part of that tract of land lying between Benjamin Brown's land and my son John Pope's land, to him and the heirs lawfully begotten of his own body,

Youngest son Leroy Pope-all that tract of land whereon I now live, to him and the heirs lawfully begotten of his own body; also negro girl Betty.

To Isaac Basie-my gray broad cloath coat, vest, and breeches. To Thomas Pitman-one suit of cloaths to wit: broad cloath coat, tieken vest, and breeches. Four sons Joseph, John, Richard, and Leroy Pope-shall have their estates when they come to the age of eighteen years. Estate not to be appraised. Rest of my estate to my wife Anne Pope, and my four sons Joseph, John, Richard, and Leroy Pope, to be equally divided between them. Mr. Thomas Gaskins, and Mr. Thomas Winter-to divide the estate,

Witness: Isaac Basye, Elizmon Basye, and Catharine Basye.
