Biography

Thomas was born about 1773 and baptised on the 12th April 1773 at St. Andrew, Holborn, Middlesex, England, the son of Thomas Pope and Mary Pope of Little Saffron Hill^[1]

On the 4th December 1807, Thomas, bachelor of Holborn, married Elizabeth Brownfield spinster of Liverpool, at St. Sepulchre, Holborn, Middlesex, England^[2]

In 1809, Thomas was living at Charterhouse Square, Holborn, Middlesex, England^[3]. Charterhouse Square is an eight minute walk from Saffron Hill, Holborn.

From 1814-1819, Thomas was occupied as an errand man^[4] and a carrier^[5][6].

In 1830, Thomas was living at King Street, Hammersmith, Middlesex, England^[7].

Thomas Pope passed away aged 58 years (b. abt. 1772) on the 1st February 1830^[7] at Hammersmith, Middlesex, England and was buried on the 7th February 1830 at St. Paul, Hammersmith, Middlesex, England^[8]

Probate was granted on the 2nd March 1830 to Elizabeth Pope, widow and relict^[7]

Research Notes

It is unlikely that the Thomas Pope who married Elizabeth Brownfield in St. Sepulchre, Holborn, Middlesex, England is the Thomas Pope who was born at Egloshayle, Cornwall, England, the son of Richard and Lucy Pope^[10]..

It is more likely that the Thomas who married Elizabeth Brownfield was the Thomas baptised 21st Jan 1771 at St. Andrew, Holborn, Middlesex, England, the son of Thomas Pope and Mary Pope.

It appears as if the different Thomas Pope's have been confused and combined. The Thomas who was born at Egloshayle appears to have married in Cornwall at St. Minver, the same parish as his brother Richard did a few years later.
