Biography

Archibald Baden Powell was born about 1900, in Havelock. He was known as Darby to the family. He married 24 May 1924 at Canvastown, Myra Louisa Rush and they had a family of four daughters: Myra Ayleen, Audrey Joy, Margaret Colleen and Lorraine Fayhe. [1]

Darby and Myra remained in the Marlborough area. Myra provided much information for the Climo reunion in 1978 although fire once again destroyed the old home so few photographs remained of this second generation family in its younger days. But Darby still remembered his grandfather, Roger Pope, as an old man walking from Havelock to visit friends up the Wakamarina Valley, about eight or nine miles away; Darby also recalled the home in Canvastown of Richard Climo and Fanny Ellen, his grandmother, especially when she was baking bread; he recalled the timber trains as they hauled the logs to Blackball Mill near Havelock - these and other memories of sawmill life were recounted by both Darby and Myra (Darby himself a victim of the Emerywheel).

Darby and Myra spent their retirement in Blenheim. Darby passed away 05 September 1979 and Myra passed away on 20 May 1988.[2][3]
