Research Notes

There are several Mary Porter's in the early New England records. This biography is about Mary Porter wife of Joseph Royce who married at Wallingford 1 October 1684[11][12]

  • Because there are several Mary Porter's it is difficult to be certain about her birth and parents but the best documented possibility is that Mary was born 10 May 1663 to a John Porter[13] Unfortunately this birth date does not align with the daughters of the known John Porter's form Windsor and in the Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, Savage does not show this Mary, although he names many other Windsor Porter's[14] Also a look at the Barbour Collection index suggests that 10 May 1663 may have been the baptismal date for a Mary Porter who was born ten years earlier and is know to have married Joseph Phelps.[15]
