Francis Porter, born in 1782 in Wilkes County, North Carolina; died in 1839 in Russell County, Virginia. He married Malinda Johnston on November 27, 1802. She was born 1785 in North Carolina, and died in 1860.

Notes for Francis Porter:

Francis owned property in Wilkes Co., NC that joined his father's, but by 1825 had sold out and by 1828 was located in Russell Co., VA. When Francis moved his family to Russell Co., VA, they settled on the waters of Molls Creek on a 50 acre tract he purchased from Jeremiah Elam. This was in November 1828 which would indicate that he might have come to Russell Co. earlier because November would have been much too late to prepare his family for winter. His sister, Mary Porter Johnston, and her husband William were already living on Molls Creek.

Francis' health began to fail him, for in February 1833, it was ordered that Francis Porter was to be exempted from payment of county taxes due to his age and infirmities. By 1839 Francis was dead, confirmed by a deed recorded in Russell Co. in which he died intestate. In settling his estate, eight of his children sold out to their brother John Porter.
