Mary Ann was born in Indiana, where she married Joseph Porter in 1840. They moved to Lake Prairie, Iowa, where they lived until he died in 1882. She then moved to Pella, Iowa, where she married John Woody in 1895 and died in 1901. she was the daughter of Samuel Chezem and Elizabeth Gouty.
