She married the Rev. Aaron Cleveland, "of Hadden" (Haddam, Connecticut), at Medford on August 4, 1739.[2][4]
As a minister, her husband moved frequently, most of the time taking his family with him. After their marriage, they resided at Haddam, Connecticut, for seven years. On May 23, 1747, they removed to Malden, Massachusetts, where Susannah's father resided. Then, in December, 1750, they removed to Halifax, Nova Scotia, in support of the new British settlement there. They remained at Nova Scotia for five years, and in 1754 removed to Norwich, Connecticut. However, for this job Rev. Aaron was required to first sail to England in order to receive "Episcopal ordination." Before this particular excursion he left Susannah and his nine children in Boston with Susannah's uncle, Chief Justice Samuel Sewall. He returned from England October 3, 1755, after a harrowing voyage, collected his family from Boston, and returned to Norwich. Finally, on March 18, 1757, at his request, he was transferred to the Parish at Newcastle, Delaware (then a part of Pennsylvania). Rev. Aaron died August 11, 1757, at the age of 41.[2]
Susannah (Porter) Cleveland died in Salem, Massachusetts, on March 28, 1788, at the age of 71.[2][5]
