Note: Edwin lived in Baileyville, Illinois until he was 14 when he came to White Rock, Jewell County, Kansas with his parents. He made his home on the homestead of his father for 44 years. In 1873 he and his brother Leslie returned to their sister's home near Freeport, Illinois. He remained there until the fall of 1876 when he returned to his home in Jewell County. A little later he bought the relinquishment of the Milligan farm that was formerly homesteaded by Frank Parker, now known as the Charles Humiston home. In the fall of 1877 Mary Paynter and her father came from Lanark, Illinois to be married to Edwin at the home of G. W. Dye. Edwin died at his son's home near Wray, Colorado, after a short illness. He was a member of the Modern Woodsmen of America, Webber, Kansas.
DEATH: Obituary - Edwin Porter, elderly resident of this county and father of Chester J. Porter, died at the home of his son in the Alvin neighborhood, June 24, 1927. Deceased was born October 12, 1857 and was 69 years, 8 months and 12 days old at the time of his death. Death was due to influenza. The remains were taken to Webber, Kansas, where the funeral services were held. He is survived by his son and other less near relatives and friends.
