James is listed on the 1880 Census as a widower with six children including four (4) from Nancy (Porter) Mugg McAdoo: daughter Susan age 8, twin son/daughter James and Sallie age 6, son Oscar age 3, and two step-children from second wife Nancy (Porter) Mugg's first husband J.K. Mugg, namely step-son John Mugg age 19 and stepdaughter Mary Mugg age 14. The enumeration date of the 1880 census was 7 June 1880 implying that "Pearl" Nancy (Porter) Mugg McAdoo had died prior to that date.
