- Samuel was born in 1835. He died in 1909.
- Parents: Joseph Porter 1795 – 1870 and Mary (Williamson) Porter 1803 - 1870.

- Samuel enlisted in the Fall of 1862 in Company E, 39th Kentucky Infantry and served for 3 years. He was honorably discharged in 1865. Samuel brought his family to Minnesota in 1872, settling near Long Prairie. They came to Alexandria in 1906. Samuel was the father of 18 children. 7 children are listed on his Findagrave page with links to their Findagrave page with dates.
