DENNIS KEITH PORTER
Dennis Keith Porter, 58, died Friday, March 20, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Johnson of the Kellogg Christian Church officiating. Pallbearers were Carroll "Shorty" Anderson, Dick Clark Sr., Randy Deppe, Dennis Des Planque, John Krumm Sr., Jerry Morris and Art Schmidt. Honorary bearers were Benny Benson, Jerry Benson, Jack Bucklin, Doyle Burkett, John Krumm Jr., Marion Onthank and Roger Wadle.
Burial was in Pleasant Township Cemetery, Ewart.
The son of Keith Jacob and Lenis Lucille Robison Porter, he was born Sept. 15, 1938, in Grinnell. He received his education in the Grinnell schools and was a 1956 graduate of Grinnell High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was married to Louise McMeekin May 10, 1958. He later was married to Rowena Smith Nov. 3, 1963. He was employed by Onthank Body and Fender for several years and later was self-employed in the body and fender business and as an auto mechanic. He also farmed in Jasper County. He was a volunteer with the Grinnell Fire Department and was a member of the Kellogg American Legion.
Surviving are his mother; two children, Michael of Bena, Minn., and Deanna of Woodbine; two stepchildren, Michelle Sisson of Grinnell and Cindy Strobel of Rock Creek Lake; one brother, Stewart; two sisters, Pat Kramer of Grinnell and Mary Tyree of Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and his companion, Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A Dennis K. Porter Memorial Fund has been established.
