The 6th and longest survivng child of Ellen G. Cantey & Chauncey Charles Porter was born & raised in Louisiana as a Southern Gentleman. He was an accountant & until the death in 1888 of his brother Charles Hamson lived in New Ibernia Louisiana. He moved to Fort Smith where he was an Accountant. There he met & married a young widow, Selma Valiska Krone Epple who had a small daughter Emma. Edward & Selma had 4 daughters & 2 sons. They owned a farm near Winslow, Arkansas, where 2 of his children were born in the little log cabin home but it became easier to live in Ft. Smith so the family properties there could be taken care of & good schools for the children. The farm was their summer home. with their main home in Ft. Smith.
