Biography

Emma American Ott was born 21 Apr 1843 in Covington, LA, St. Tammany Parish to Charles Ott and Margaret Ann Tate Ott. She was their 8th child. According to the 1850 census for Washington parish, there were 5 children older than Emma and 3 living children older than she. Her grandmother, Margaret Jackson Ott and Emma's Aunt Naomi were living with them at the time. In 1860, she was still living at home with her parents. I am assuming that she married around this same year as she received a widow's pension by 1880. Her first son William Edward Porter was born in 1861, second son James English Porter in 1866 and daughter Ella Porter in 1869. Their father was Joseph Porter is not mentioned with her in any of the census records, but she does file a widow's pension and the 1880 Census she is listed as a widow. She passed away 5 Sep., 1904 and is buried in Mt Hermon, Washington, Louisiana, United States.

Porter-8044 and Ott-1150 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate; Porter is her husband’s surname
