James was born in 1839, the son of James Mattingly Porter and Mary Jane Frost of Deerfield, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia[1]

On January 2, 1864, he married Priscilla Foote the daughter of Richard Foote and Eliza Porter of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia[2][1], and had children, including:

William O Porter, born July 31, 1869[4], who married Emma Doane, daughter of Prince and Eveline Doane on April 15, 1896[5]

Henrietta Porter, who married Benjamin Deschamps[7]
Jacob Nathaniel Porter, born July 16, 1876[8], who married Anna Cameron[9]

Benjamin, born 1879, who married Margaret Cameron in 1905[10]
James Allsion Porter died Jun. 30, 1903, and is buried in Sub Division 14, Lot 38, Central Cemetery, Beverly, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA.[11]
