DeWitt C. Porter was born the 11th of November, 1834 in Robertson county, Tennessee. DeWitt was the son of Alexander Bennett Porter and Esther Bell.
DeWitt appears in the 1850 Federal census in Yalobusha county, Mississippi in the household of his mother.[1] Esther's household appeared as follows:

DeWitt married Sarah Jane Maples on the 1st of November 1855, in Lafayette county, Mississippi.[2]
DeWitt appears in the 1860 Federal census in Pontotoc county, Mississippi.[3] DeWitt's household appeared as follows:

Dewitt enlisted as a Private in Company H, 22nd Mississippi Infantry on the 10th August, 1861, in Oxford, Mississippi.
Dewitt Porter died the 5th of August, 1863 in the Lauderdale Springs hospital and was buried in the Lauderdale Springs CSA cemetery, Lauderdale county, Mississippi.[4]
