13 Aug 1777--Robert Porter (Jr.) is noted as a Private in Caroline county, Maryland Militia in Captain Andrew Fountain’s Company, 14th Battalion in service by 13 August 1777, per a book, “Revolutionary Patriots of Caroline County” by Peden. Since militia companies were made up from members of a local community, commonly brothers served together. Lawrence Porter served in the same company—an indication they were brothers.
