Biography

ROBERT PORTER, JR. – Before 1755 – After 1800

1776 – Colonial Caroline County Maryland census - Parish: Bridge Town Robert Porter, Males 16-50 - 1, Females under 16 – 2, Females 16-50 - 1.

13 Aug 1777--Robert Porter (Jr.) is noted as a Private in Caroline county, Maryland Militia in Captain Andrew Fountain’s Company, 14th Battalion in service by 13 August 1777, per a book, “Revolutionary Patriots of Caroline County” by Peden. Since militia companies were made up from members of a local community, commonly brothers served together. Lawrence Porter served in the same company—an indication they were brothers.

1778 – Colonial Caroline County Maryland Fidelity Oath Robert Porter

1783 – Dorchester County, Maryland Tax Assessment Robert Porter, Jr. 300 acres. DO Upper District Hundred, p. 16. MSA S 1161-5-6 1/4/5/48

1790 Federal Census, Caroline County, Maryland, Head of Family - PORTER, Robert , Free White Males 16 yrs. and Upward - 1, Free White Males under 16 - 2, Free White Females - 2, All Other Free Persons - 1, Slaves – 0.

1800 - Federal Census, Caroline, Maryland, Robert Porter, Males - Under 10: 1, Males -10 thru 15: 1, Males - 16 thru 25: 1, Males - 45 and over: 1 (before 1755, Females - 45 and over: 1, (Note: 1820 Caroline County Robert Porter born 1776 – 1794—son of Robert, Jr.? rlp).
