Marriage
Elizabeth (Betty) Porter married Edward (Ned) Durbin, Sr. about 1779 or 1780, In Maryland, before going to Kentucky. [4]
(Documentation for this marriage has not been found, so we have no record of it.) Elizabeth and Edward are second cousins once removed.
They went from Maryland to Kentucky around 1787 or 1788. Records show that he was in Madison County, Kentucky, in 1788. Edward Durbin and wife Elizabeth sold land in Madison County, Kentucky in 1809. It is quite likely that Edward Durbin accompanied his father in the settlement of Madison County. Records show that his brother Joseph was married in Madison County in 1789 which would indicate that Christopher Durbin, the father, was in the state and county by, or prior, to 1789.
Edward Durbin, his wife Betty (Porter) and family moved to Barren County, Kentucky. By trade he was a wagoner and hauled supplies such as salt, lumber, and metals from one community to another, using creek beds as roads.
