Biography

Steela was the sixth child of seven children. He moved from Kentucky to Missouri in 1863. In 1874, he moved to Gentry County, Missouri. Steela married first to Sarah Bradshaw of Russell County, Kentucky in 1840. His second marriage was to Mrs. Mary Hill (daughter of Jessie Canaday, of Indiana) in 1866. He united with the Baptist church in his early youth and remained a faithful Christian until his death. His wife died in 1865. On Dec. 6th, 1866 he was united in marriage to Mary Hill, eight children were born of this union, five of whom are still living. In 1894 he moved to Garfield county, Oklahoma. He was always hard working and industrious, was well liked by all who knew him. He was a kind husband and a good father. Seth Jefferson Posey was a Son of Steela Augusta Posey.
