Biography

Minutes of the Union Assoc. of Old Regular Baptists 95th Annual Session Held with Bull Creek Church, Maxie, Va. Sept 1954 pg 54

Cassie Vanover

Cassie Vanover was born December 10, 1865, and died July 18, 1954. She was 88 years, 7 months and 6 days old. She was the daughter of Isaac and Pollie Potter. She was the mother of 8 children, Albert Potter, Lizzie Potter, Clarence, Elcie Stanley, Delbert Vanover, Edna Phillips, Delcie Anderson, and Monroe Vanover. Her husband died when her baby was 3 years old. She worked and kept her children together until they were all married and had homes of their own. She professed a hope in Christ some several years before she joined the church. She was convinced that the Regular Baptist was the true church. She joined the Bethel Church of Old Regular Baptist in 1934 and was baptized by Elder A. L. Murcer and lived a devoted Christian always filling her seat in the church. She loved her church and just as long as she was able, she filled her seat. She was loved by all that knew her. She made her home with her daughter, Delcie. She was as good to her as a baby and was at her bedside at every call.

She bore her sickness with patience and faith in God who had saved her and kept her to live a long and useful life. I believe she was one of the most faithful members I ever saw. She loved her church and she always called it her home. Her seat is vacant, her voice is still, but her memory still lives in the mind of her brethren and sisters. She came to the river as a brave soldier. A gentle voice said, "Come". She laid aside the old rugged cross, and gathered the robe that God had given her and went to meet the God she loved and trusted, calmly entered into the Heaven of rest forever from the storm. She leaves 5 children and some several grandchildren and a host of brethren and sisters and friends to mourn her loss, but our loss is Heaven's gain and her eternal happiness.
