Biography

Birth

Elizabeth Potter, was the daughter of Robert Potter of Rhode Island and his wife Isabel (____).[1][2] Her birth is unknown and as such there are many "suggestions" for this birth.

1630 Hempstead, Nassau, New York
Birth: Feb 16 1631 Oyster Bay, Queens, New York
Christening: Feb 16 1631 New Haven, New Haven, Conn. Note there were Potters in early New Haven, but no New Haven until 1637.
Austin's Gen. Dictionary places her as a first child b. ____ but next child b. 1637
Anderson's Great Migration places her birth say 1642, the last child of Robert.
Robert and Isabel were admitted to the Roxbury, Massachusetts, church in 1634. He became a resident in Rhode Island in 1639.

Richard Harcourt married, 1st, in 1651-2, Elizabeth Potter born 1635-6, died about 1674-5. Poole & Davis records claim that Elizabeth Potter is the daughter of Robert and Isabel (Anthony) Potter, but Elizabeth Potter WikiTree records appear to conflict.

Marriage

Austin says Elizabeth married Richard Harcutt. Anderson says "said to have m. Richard Harcutt [Austin 156].

The first child of Richard Harcutt is estimated to have been born in 1651. This establishes a birth for his wife at say 1631, certainly not later than 1636 (age 15), which introduces a certain doubt about the age of Elizabeth Harcutt and whether she was actually the daughter of Robert Potter. 1631 seems too early for Potters first child (we know sister Deliverance was bpt 1636/7). Anderson's placement as youngest child b. say 1642 is too young to be the mother of Harcut's children.

Death

Bef 1683, Oyster Bay, Nassau, New York [citation needed]
1679 Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island[citation needed]

Children

Children: Savage's Genealogical Dictionary.[3] Austin repeats the list (without husbands.)[2] Savage says their names were obtained through a will of Robert Potter's second wife. Anderson points out that the will of Potter's second wife, does not list these children.[1]

Isabel Harcutt m. Thomas Wickes
Elizabeth Harcutt m. Thomas Young
Mary Harcutt m. Edward Ketchum
Meribah Harcuttt m. George Townsend.

Potter-2032 and Potter-1870 appear to represent the same person because: Re death differences. Robertt Harcourt remarried in 1683. It is unlikely Isabel went to England to die.

What an interesting conglomeration! Robert Potter with this death date is a different Robert Potter than the one in Rhode Island. It was [[Potter-146|John Potter of New Haven] of whom it was suggested that he married Elizabeth Wood. But this was a dead end see her profile. The John Potter and Elizabeth of Chesham England had a daughter Elizabeth. But this Elizabeth is clearly the daughter of Robert Potter of Rhode Island. My suggestion. Disconnect Elizabeth and leave her standing on her own. she was a real person. Merge the Roberts using the death of the RI Robert (a profile for the Roxbury Robert also exists) and then merge the daughters Eliz. (Potter) Harcourt. Objections?

This Elizabeth Potter, wife of Richard Harcutt, is certainly the daughter of Robert Potter and his first wife, Isabel (Unknown).

Will create an Isabel (Unknown) for children and for merges (or not, if there was an Isabel Anthony who married someone else or was unmarried. (there is some specific into on Anthony-268)

edit: earlier, I wrote the wrong wife - mother was definitely the first wife (brain glitch - Wikiing too late). No children of the 2nd wife, per Anderson. Also Isabel is (Unknown). Sorry for any confusion Thanks!

Potter-2049 and Potter-2032 appear to represent the same person because: These appear to be the same with spelling variations of Harcourt/Harcutt
