Samuel Potter was born about 1688 in Ipswich, Massachusetts to parents Samuel Potter and Joanna Wood.

He married first Hannah Dresser (ints. 21 March, Rowley and 22 March 1711/12, Ipswich), probably in Rowley, Massachusetts.^[1]

Children: Esther, Lydia, Mary, Abigail, Mary, Elizabeth, Samuel, Hannah.

Samuel married second, Esther Hardy, 4 March 1730/31 in Bradford.
