Julian was born on December 4, 1832 at Wolf Creek in Morgan County, Tennessee, on December 17, 1849 Wolf Creek became part of Scott County, Tennessee. According to a 1826 land grant Julian's father John Potter Sr. was granted fifty acres of land on Wolf Creek. He was the son of John Potter Sr. and Polly ( Griffith ) Potter. He married Rhoda Buttram on August 26, 1855 in the clerk's office at Huntsville in Scott County by James Cecill, J.P. He passed away on July 8, 1907 at Jamestown in Fentress County, Tennessee.
Note: Julin's name was also spelled as Julien and Julian on various records.
