Birth date and place 1 November 1737 at Prendick, Alnham, Northumberland.[1][2]
Thomas was a merchant and grocer in Bristow Street, Edinburgh,[3] he supposedly made a fortune as a silk merchant, his wife set up the Potts Trust in 1804, leaving the income from the trust to her siblings and their descendants in perpetuity.
He married Isabella Atkinson 14 Dec 1771 in Oldhamstocks Parish Church, Oldhamstocks, East Lothian, Scotland, the bride was from Oldhamstocks and the groom was from Lessudden parish in Roxburghshire a border county with England. The witnesses were James Watson and George Gilrye. The record says they were married at Dunglass which is a mansion in Oldhamstocks parish, E Haddingtonshire, standing in the midst of a fine park, ¾ mile inland, and 1½ mile NW of Cockburnspath. Presumably the parish church is also there.[4]
He died without children in Edinburgh, Scotland on 24 November 1800, he was buried in Greyfriars Church, Edinburgh.[5]
Birth: 1737[citation needed]
