When Jonathan Potts was born in 1785 in Loudoun, Virginia, his father, John, was 35 and his mother, Susan, was 23. He married Elizabeth Triplet (1791–1865) on February 20, 1810, in Jefferson, Ohio. They had 12 children in 26 years. He died on April 23, 1857, in Lawrence, Illinois, at the age of 72.[1]
