Elizabeth Potts was born 30 October, 1699, the third child and first daughter of David Potts and [Croasdale-20|Alice Croasdale]][1]. "
On 4 October, 1722 she married Peter Cleaver, Jr. in the Germantown Friends meeting as recorded in their wedding certificate as transcribed below [2] Elizabeth bore seven children between 1723 and 1739.
Her death is reported in unsourced family trees to have occurred on 31 July, Upper Dublin Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
Transcription of Cleaver-Potts Wedding Certificate (Best inference of unreadable words included in square brackets).
“Whereas Peter Cleaver junr of the Township of Bristol in the [County] of Philadelphia in the Province of Pennsylvania, weaver, son of Peter Cle[aver] of the said Township of Bristol Weaver, and Elizabeth Potts of the said Township of Bristol in the said County of Phila, Seamstress Daughter of David & Allice Potts of the same place have Declared their intentions of marriage with each other before several Monthly meetings of the People called Quakers at Abington in the said County of Phila. Which [persons?] therein after Deliberate consideration thereof & having first obtained con[sent] of their parents and Relations & nothing appearing to obstruct or hinder were it Approved by the said Meeting Now these are to Certify all whom it may concern that for the full Accomplishing their said intent of marriage this Fourth Day of the Eighth Month in the year of our Lord and Saviour one Thousand Seven hundred and Twenty two the said [Peter] Clea[ver] Junr and Elizabeth Potts Appeared in a Publick and Solemn Assembly of ye said people for that end and Purpose met in the Publick Meeting house In Germantown in the said County of Phila.. And the said Peter Cleaver standing up in the said Assembly and Taking the said Elizabeth Po[tts] by the hand did in a solemn manner openly Declare that he took her to be his wife Promiscing through God’s Assistance to be unto her a loving and Faithful husband until Death should Separate them and then [--] In the said Assembly the said Elizabeth Potts Did in Like manner Solemnly declare that she took the said Peter Cleaver to be her Husba[nd] Promiscing with God’s Assistance to be unto him a Loving and Faithful wife until Death should them separate and Moreover the said Peter Cleaver & Elizabeth Potts she as is customary in marriage assuming the [surname] of her Husband as a further confirmation of their said marriage did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose Names are Here under Written being Among others present at the Solemnication of their said marriage & subscription in manner aforesaid to Witness Thereunto have also to these presents Set our hands the Dan and Year Above Written --- Peter Cleaver Elizabeth Cleaver
