Biography

The only son of Samuel Powell and Abigail, Samuel (1704-1759), entered into merchant life, and like his father, became one of the leaders in his field. He also became active in politics and in 1730, waselected a common councilman and advanced to the position of alderman, a life position,thirteen years later. ^[1]

Samuel, like his sister Sarah, married into the Morris family. He wed Mary Morris, sister of Anthony Morris and daughter of Anthony and Phoebe Morris, in 1732. They had three children: Abigail, Samuel, and Sarah
