Biography

Isabella (Powell) Small was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Isabella Mary Elizabeth Powell was born on 21st November 1860 in Somervale Station, near Grafton, on New South Wales' Clarence River (Australia). She was the eldest of ten children of George Richmond Powell and Mary Small. ^[1] She was a great granddaughter of First Fleet convicts, John Small (1761-1850) and Mary Parker (c1758-1824), Second Fleeter George Patfield (1763-1809), and 1793 convict arrival, Mary O'Brien (c1772-1853).

Isabella married her first cousin (Isabella's mother being a sister of John's father), John Small, on 30th June 1880 in Tyndale, on the Clarence River. Isabella was nineteen years of age and John 29 years. ^[2] They made their home near Maclean, on the Clarence River, where they had four sons and two daughters.

Aged 77 years, Isabella passed away on 13th April 1938 in Neutral Bay, New South Wales. ^[3]
