Jemima Powell was probably born in about 1708 based on the date of her marriage. She was reportedly the daughter of Richard Powell and Grace (___).[1]
She married first Edward Derrick at St. Paul's Parish, Stafford County, Colony of Virginia, on 2 January 1728/9.[2]
Edward Derrick probably died on 27 August 1740 in St. Paul's Parish.[2] The transcription of the parish register records his death on 27 August 1741, but the probate files of Stafford County reflect that his estate was appraised on May 13, 1740 and inventory admitted into record at Court held for Stafford County, by William Powell and John Buckner, on June 10, 1740.[3]
The following year, the widowed Jemima (Powell) Derrick remarried to John Thomas at St. Paul's Parish, Stafford County, Colony of Virginia.[2]
Jemima Thomas reportedly died in about 1765 in St. Paul's Parish, Stafford County, Colony of Virginia.[4]

Research Notes
Origins
A prior version of this profile contained the following claims about a potential reference to her in the following wills, which may provide a clue to and/or more reliable sources for her origins:
Jemima is named in the Will of her mother, written on October 1, 1734 in Stafford county. "I give unto my Daughter JEMIMA DERRICK 1 new feather bed 1 green rugg 1 blanket a pair of new sheets 1 cow and steer one trunk 1 black horse and 1 gun to her and her heirs for ever one putt." [9]
On October 10, 1734, MARY CHILLINGWORTH wrote her Last Will and Testament, leaving EDWARD DERRICK & JEMIMA his wife and heirs .. fore hundred acres of land _Lying in Prince William County between Powells run and Neighapscoe being a part of the 2960 acres of land formerly be-longing to JOHN WOOD [10]
Disputed Child
A prior version of this profile included as an additional child of Edward Derrick and Jemima Powell a Edward Derrick, Jr. born before 1740, in Saint Paul's Parish, who died April 13, 1772, in Charles county, Maryland [11] However, this birth does not appear in the transcription of the St. Paul Parish register for the relevant period. This Edward may be confused with Edward, the son of Benjamin and Katherine Derrick on 3 June 1741.[2]

See my post on the profile for John Thomas. The Jemima Derrick who married John Thomas in August 1741 does appear to be the widow of Edward Derrick, and is certainly not his daughter.
Derrick-209 and Powell-4710 appear to represent the same person because: See the detailed explanation in the comments, and sources cited in Powell-4710. The sources cited in Powell-4710 show that Jemima Powell married first Derrick, then Thomas. There are no sources cited in Derrick-209 to support the birth claims. Please merge.
