Larkin was the son of Abraham Lovely and Sarah (Allen) Powell, and the brother of Nancy Ann and Catherine. He married Rhoda Baker on April 21, 1843. Their children were Nancy Ann, Malinda, Elizabeth, Sarah, Aaron, Washington, Susan Ann, Wansley B., George, William. Larkin was a farm laborer in Jackson County, Kentucky.
