Captain Lazarus Whitehead Powell was born 1777 in West Tarboro, Edgecombe Co., North Carolina to Willoughby Powell and Mary Whitehead who married in 1776 in Edgecombe Co., North Carolina. Mary was the Daughter of Lazarus Whitehead and Mary Bryan.
Lazarus was one of Ten Siblings.
He married his first wife, Hulda Wright 17th October 1799 in Edgecombe Co, North Carolina. They had three children:

Captain Lazarus Powell settled when young in Logan Co., Ky., where he lived 2 years; then moved to Henderson Co., Ky. in 1806, where he lived until he died April 28, 1869.
