Biography

Ellen was born about 1791 at Knockbrit, co Tipperary, the third daughter of Edmund Power of Curragheen. [1]

She married circa 1810 to John Home Purves, son of Sir Alexander Purves, 5th Bt. and Mary Home.

Children:

  1. Louisa married J. Fairlie, Esq
  2. Mary died unmarried
  3. Margaret married Augustus Tollmache, Esq
  4. John
  5. Ellen married ---- Arkwright, Esq.

Her husband obtained the office of British Consul at Pensacola and died there 20 Sep 1827. [p 479]

Ellen married, secondly, on 6 Dec 1828 at St George's church, hanover Square to widower Charles Manners-Sutton, 1st Viscount Canterbury (son of Most Rev. Charles Manners-Sutton and Mary Thoroton) on 6 December 1828 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England. They had one daughter.

Ellen died on 16 Nov 1845 at Clifton.

Her will was proven (by probate) in January 1846
